Dateline: 16th March, 2005 Christian Group Demands Springer Judicial Review The Christian Institute, an organisation based in Newcastle, has asked for a judicial review of the BBC's broadcast of Jerry Springer - The Opera. The group claims that the BBC broke its charter by broadcasting the programme and broke the Human Rights Act by discriminating against Christians. The idea of a judicial review is for a High Court Judge to decide if there is a case to answer. Colin Hart, director of the Insititute, described the programme as "the most offensive and spiteful show ever broadcast by the BBC," and added that he was "appalled that a publicly-funded body should be so contemptuous of the people who pay for its upkeep. The BBC has a duty to respect the religious beliefs of its viewers." Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
