Sprint to Camden

Now in its tenth year, camden people's theatre (cpt) continue to celebrate the diversity and quality of new performance. Sprint, now in its seventh year, will once again showcase the best work by emerging companies. Many of this year's shows have been developed at cpt as part of its TONIC (Training of New Innovative Companies) scheme.

Wednesday 3rd March
Press Night
Time: 7.15pm
Extracts from various productions

Thursday 4th March - Saturday 6th March
Pleasure Seekers: Ariadne
Time: 8.00pm
Ariadne is an intimate performance of broken hearts and dreams, exploring the human ability to love, to be cruel and to exercise self pity. The audience discovers Ariadne, distraught and alone with her travelling trunks on the island of Naxos. Utilising circus skills and object animation, Ariadne's story unfolds and the destructive relationship between Ariadne and Theseus is unleashed…

Sunday 7th March - Tuesday 9th March
fervent: i am blinking
Time: 8.00pm
Fervent invite you to an onslaught of darkness and Technicolor. An automatic recognition of eye blinking in spontaneously occurring behaviour. The daylight will change with unnatural suddenness, the temperature of the evening will alter in an instant and the air will become twice as rare in the blink of an eye.

Wednesday 10th March
Paper Cuts
Time: 8.00pm
Due to the success of Paper Cuts in 2003, cpt will once again invite ten artists working across the fields of theatre, live art, poetry, music and comedy to present short pieces made specifically for the event, inspired by that morning's newspaper and developed during the day.

Thursday 11th March - Saturday 13th March
Gloaming Theatre Co: Being Alone
Time: 8.00pm
Liberated from traditional constraints of plot and character, "Being Alone…" represents Gloaming's core approach to theatre - finding truth, simply. Pushing the performers beyond the realm of safety by removing the 'mask' of character, Gloaming performers dare to play themselves; frank, open and truthful; creating a disarming raw emotional intimacy.

Sunday 14th March - Tuesday 16th March
Brian: The Art Factory
Time: 8.00pm
Brian "The Boy Band of Theatre" present The Art Factory, a piece of Art in itself, where an artist presents their Art through the cutting edge medium of 'Painting' & 'Decorating', which is being hailed as the new 'Dog Shit' round Hoxton way; A messy look at Visual Arse.

Wednesday 17th March
Edgeconnector
Time: 8.00pm
A celebration of performance art in Text and Music

Thursday 18th March - Saturday 20th March
The Cabotin Company: Our Little Destabilisation
Time: 8.00pm
The Cabotin Company`s new production is a fusion of postmodern playfulness and the elusive quest for the transcendent. This anarchic and stylistically promiscuous show stakes out a territory somewhere between the domestic and the mythic. It is an unholy clash of influences that cover everything from the Butoh to the buffoonery, spiced with visceral thrills and lashings of camp devilry.

Sunday 21st March
cptDOODAH!
Time: 8.00pm
Yet another slice of the distinctive blend of leftfield music, poetry and performance that is cptDOODAH!

Monday 22nd March - Tuesday 23rd March
Momentum Theatre: Tmesis
Time: 8.00pm
Tmesis is based on Aristophanes' speech from Plato's Symposium about the origin of love. According to the philosopher we were all creatures with four arms, four legs and two heads. Today we are only half of this creature in an endless search for our other half. Momentum Theatre have used this idea, and the creature's relationship with the Gods, to take you on a physical journey from the ancient Greek years to the modern man.

Thursday 25th March - Sunday 28th March
cpt: tbc
Time: 8.00pm
A brand new production from cpt's Artistic Director, Chris Goode, whose past work includes Kiss of Life and Napoleon in Exile.

It is at the heart of cpt's policy to support and promote the work of exciting, innovative, often risky artists in the early stages of their careers and Sprint 2004, which has been programmed by cpt's Artistic Director, Chris Goode, is its most diverse and exciting programme yet.
