New Season in St Helens

St Helens Theatre Royal has announced a spring season of mixed theatre, music, comedy and other entertainment between January and June of this year.

Topping the bill is the return of Desperate Scousewives—not the controversial TV programme but the pre-existing play by Lynne Fitzgerald and Claire Bowles about the housewives of Liverpool—plus Brookside star Louis Emerick in The Ciggie Run by John Evans.

Katie Tracey's play Ladies' Day about a group of girls from a Liverpool biscuit factory visiting Aintree for the Grand National—not to be confused with the 2005 Amanda Whittington play of the same name about a group of Hull fish factory workers visiting Royal Ascot—is revived following a successful run at the Liverpool Actors Studio last year, and Bare Faced Cheek Productions will perform the stage version of the popular British film The Full Monty.

For younger audiences, Regal Entertainments will present The Wizard of Oz for Easter starring Leah Murphy as Dorothy and Radio City's Claire Simonsen as Glinda, and Fireman Sam will also pay a visit. Also, Vienna Festival Ballet will perform Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.
