Liverpool John Moores University will offer an MA in Musical Theatre from September 2017.
LJMU describes the course as follows:
"With the tag line 'Adventures in Musical Theatre', the course seeks to develop mastery of musical theatre understanding and craft, alongside a developing pedagogy, that is current and relevant, centred upon the question: 'what constitutes excellence in musical theatre?' across all sectors—professional, amateur and educational.
"It places scholarly research and exploration of creative processes at the heart of its work and as such will be of value to all musical theatre artists (creators, creatives and performers) and educators alike. As a Masters level course, it seeks to focus upon mastery of musical theatre understanding and craft.
"It is the belief of the course that rigorous critical enquiry and best creative practice are inextricably linked. It aims to champion both new work and new ways of working, and you will be joining a community that is passionate about musical theatre and its many possibilities."
The course has already had applicants, mostly professionals and teachers with industry experience, but those coming straight from undergraduate study or non-educational backgrounds are equally welcome to apply.
