Be Subversive at 503

subVERSE, a new writing theatre company with an ambitious programme reflecting the ongoing global political situation, presents ten new pieces at Theatre 503 (The Latchmere Pub, 503 Battersea Park Road London SW11 3BW) on 12th March at 7.30.

Having premiered at the Chelsea Theatre in London in November 2004, subVERSE has been bringing a new programme of political theatre shorts to Theatre 503 every month throughout 2005. In August, the company successfully transferred the show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for 24 performances (see Rachel Lynn Brody's review). Since then, subVERSE has premiered 105 pieces of new political writing by 25 playwrights and poets.

March's short plays span a vast range of topics: the social revolution of the sixties (Mudplay), new fake environmentalists (Larking Around), family values (Merry Christmas from the Bailey Family), the subtle state of fear since 9/11 (Gentle Persuasion) and much more:

  • Mudplay by Adrian Page
  • Gentle Persuasion by Nina Rapi
  • Not Funny 'HA * HA', Funny Strange by Jihan Crowther
  • Night Sweats by William Drew
  • B-Minor by Fin Kennedy
  • This is a Test. This is Only a Test by Sarah Sigal
  • Merry Christmas from the Bailey Family by Sarah Sigal
  • Larking Around by Peter Norgate
  • Boa Noite by Ben Young
  • Special Guest: Steve Lawson, as part of the subVERSE Second Act featuring the poetry of Adrian Page underscored by Steve’s electric bass
