Sweeney Todd, the big autumn production at Derby Theatre

Stephen Sondheim’s musical thriller Sweeney Todd, Willy Russell’s Educating Rita and Harold Pinter’s dark comedy Betrayal are three of the next major productions at Derby Theatre.

Sweeney Todd will be a co-production with Mercury Theatre Colchester and can be seen in Derby from Friday 30 September until Saturday 22 October.

Derby Theatre will team up with Octagon Theatre Bolton for Educating Rita, from Friday 17 February until Saturday 11 March 2017 while the venue will be solely responsible for Betrayal, from Friday 17 March until Saturday 1 April 2017.

The autumn and spring season at Derby Theatre will feature two Christmas productions, Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland on the main stage from Friday 2 December until Saturday 7 January and Jack, based on Jack and the Beanstalk, in the Studio from Tuesday 6 until Saturday 31 December.

Touring productions include John Godber’s new comedy This Might Hurt from 20 until 24 September and The Shawshank Redemption, based on the short novel by Stephen King, from 24 until 29 October.

On Thursday 10 November, Derby Theatre will play host to War Horse—The Concert, an evening of storytelling and heart-rending music which will include a reading by the author Michael Morpurgo and songs from BBC Radio 2 folk award winners, Derbyshire’s John Tams and Barry Coope.
