tEXtPERIMENT In 2004 the New Cumbrian Play Competition resulted in the premiere of a new work, Tramping Like Mad by Julie McKiernan, in Theatre by the Lake's six play repertoire. The other joint-winner of the competition was Charlotte Allan with her play Only Available in Carlisle, which will be produced in the Autumn of 2005. Following the success of the New Cumbria Play Competition, Theatre by the Lake is launching another exciting new writing initiative. We're looking for five new pieces that are inspired by Science and the ethical dilemmas of Science. tEXtPERIMENT aims to
tEXtPERIMENT will be a series of short rehearsed readings of new work-in-progress, with public discussions, to follow performances of Theatre by the Lake's 2005 Summer Season production of Caryl Churchill's A Number - a brilliant and disturbing play about the repercussions of human cloning. tEXtPERIMENT is open to any writer living or working in the Arts Council England North West region. We require a brief synopsis of your idea and story (one side A4 double spaced) and a sample of the script (up to 10 pages of A4, double spaced). The deadline for submissions is 1 March 2005. Five pieces will be selected by a Panel and the selected writers will be informed by April 11 2005. The successful writers will also be given dramaturgical support and workshop time during September 2005, with professional actors and director, to assist them in the development of their work. tEXtPERIMENT will be launched at 7.30pm on 7th January 2005 at Theatre by the Lake. There will be an special presentation by Dr Ann Lackie on the images, language and dilemmas of modern science along with a Q&A session and the chance to meet other writers from the region. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
