Theatre Absolute 2008 Plans Following the success of our production of Hang Lenny Pope, which premiered and toured this spring, Theatre Absolute has announced anoither new production by Chris O'Connell. Directed by Matt Aston, Zero is to be Theatre Absolute's next major touring production. Co-produced with Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry, it will premiere in October 2008, and tour to venues across the UK, prior to a run in a London venue. Zero was commissioned by an Arts Council New Writing Consortium, and will bring Matt and Chris together for the first time. It is decribed as "an explosive and anarchic stare at the ethics of torture, the curse of censorship, and the growth of conscience." Twenty years from now, the world looks essentially the same, yet socially it is unrecognisable. In the face of a feast of unabated nihilism, the Global Alliance builds as many camps as it can to capture, torture, and gain information from those who seek to blow apart the rich pickings of a world that is wealthy beyond its dreams. Two soldiers, posted to serve at Camp Zero, find themselves driven to desperate acts as conscience and action grows within them. They break camp, and seek to tell the world, through a book, of the brutal regime that defends all good people in the name of democracy. Funny, chaotic, fast, and furious, Zero continues in the vein of Theatre Absolute's theatre of the extreme, and aims to both both provoke and compel.
