Dateline: 23rd November, 2003 TAG's Holocaust Memorial Project From 17th November until 12th December this year TAG Theatre Company is delivering one-day drama and visual art workshops for P7 and S1 pupils in all East Renfrewshire schools. This work is in preparation for Holocaust Memorial Day, which will be on 27th January, 2004. East Renfrewshire is hosting the commemorations for Scotland and has employed TAG to help them examine their theme for this year: The Arts. TAGs full day workshops will explore the drawings and poetry of children imprisoned in the Nazi concentration camp at Terezin (Theresienstadt) outside of Prague. TAG will facilitate creative responses to this art work. By using drama exercises, in-role theatrical presentation by leaders, and creative art sessions, the day will focus on the creativity that flourished in the camp, even under persecution and the lessons that can be learnt from it. The TAG team have taken inspiration from the book I never saw another butterfly Childrens Drawings and Poems from Terezin Concentration Camp 1942-1944 (Published by Shocken Books. This collection, created by the children who were incarcerated in Terezin, is a stark and honest depiction of life in a concentration camp. It brings to life the daily activities as well as the hopes and fears of its young authors. A total of 15,000 children under the age of fifteen passed through Terezin Concentration Camp between 1942-1944; less than 100 survived. For this Holocaust memorial Project TAG have brought together a strong team of four drama workers and two visual artists, who are working in two teams to visit 31 schools (24 primary and 7 Secondary). These workshops will reach a total of 1672 pupils. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
