Black Theatre Company Talawa is to continue to receive revenue funding from Arts Coucil England, it has been announced. In July ACE announced that it was to withdraw the £4m it has promised towards their building of the Westminster Theatre as the UK's first black theatre and warned that it might also discontinue its annual revenue funding of £475,000 when the current agreement runs out in March 2006. Earlier this month Talawa asked for a judicial review of ACE's decision on the theatre project. Now ACE has said that it will fund the company in the sum of £420,000 for the year 2006 - 2007 and that, if it makes sufficient progress in responding to the Council's concerns, that funding could be extended by a further year. A statement from Talawa said, Talawa welcomes the fact that after so many months of uncertainty about the Companys future, Arts Council England has lifted the immediate threat to Talawas revenue funding. This enables the Company to proceed with its plans to continue to build the capacity and effectiveness of its Board and management teams to ensure they support and develop Talawas role as Britains flagship Black theatre company."
