Dateline: 8th June, 2003 From SoHo to Soho Stephen Belber's Tape comes to the Soho Theatre from 30th July to 30th August.Already a huge success across the Atlantic, having played sell-out runs in New York and Los Angeles, been made into a film starring Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman and appearing on Time Out Magazine's "Best of 2002" list, Tape by Stephen Belber makes its London debut at the Soho Theatre from 30th July to 30th August at 7.30pm.
The original cast, for whom the play was written, make the transition from Soho NYC to Soho London. Dominic Fumusa (The Guru, Sex and the City), last seen here starring in Take Me Out at the Donmar Warehouse, plays Vince and Josh Stamberg (Kate & Leopold, The Time Machine) takes the role of Jon. The two men may have been best friends at school but when they meet 10 years later in a Michigan motel room, their lives have taken very different paths. The tension heightens when a woman from their past, Amy (up and comer Alison West) arrives at the motel and recounts a shocking event shared by them all. Ruthless accusations, festering resentment and unresolved sexual tensions are exposed. An unsettling and unpredictable drama about the love-hate chemistry that endures between true friends. The play is being presented by the infamous New York theatre company, Naked Angels, whose company members include Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Kenneth Lonergan, Gina Gershon, Lili Taylor, and Marisa Tomei. Over the last two decades, Naked Angels has had great success developing award winning plays including the original productions of You Can Count On Me, Lobby Hero, The Waverly Gallery, all by Kenneth Lonergan, and TONY Award winning Side Man by Warren Leight. The New York Times raves that Tape is an engaging psychodrama with echoes of David Mamet and Sam Shepherd and Time Out NY called it a " taut, hilarious thriller! As unsettling as it is entertaining!"
