World première of musical Teddy at Southwark Playhouse

The world première of musical Teddy is set to take place at London's Southwark Playhouse this June.

This 1950s-set musical is written by writer and performer Tristan Bernays whose work includes The Bread & The Beer (Soho Theatre and UK Tour), Arden 2.0 as part of Old Vic New Voices’ Arden Project and Aftershocks (National Theatre Studio).

Music for the show is by award winning composer, lyricist and writer Dougal Irvine. His work includes Off West End Awards Best New Musical Britain’s Got Bhangra, (The), Laila and The Lighthouse, The Snow Queen and The Bacchae. Irvine has been at Royal and Derngate on the Cameron Mackintosh / Mercury Musicals Resident Composer Scheme.

Teddy is set on a Saturday night in Elephant and Castle in 1956; the story concerns Teddy and Josie hitting the streets for a good time but someone wants them dead—desperate times call for rock 'n' roll.

Eleanor Rhode directs and musical direction is by Harrison White.

Teddy is presented by Snapdragon Productions and Theatre Bench and runs at Southwark Playhouse from 4 to 27 June.
