Bryn Terfel

Terfel Is Sweeney

Bryn Terfel is to play Sweeney Todd in a "dramatised concert" version of Sondheim's musical at the Royal Festival Hall from 5th to 7th July, part of the celebrations for the reopening of the refurbished South Bank Centre.

He will play opposite Maria Friedman as Mrs Lovett. Also in the cast are Adrian Thompson as Pirelli, Daniel Evans as Tobias, Steve Elias as The Beadle and Phillip Quast as Judge Turpin. David Freeman directs and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Stephen Barlow, will be joined by the Maida Vale Singers and memebrs of the Guildford School of Acting as the Chorus.

Terfel has played the part before, with the Chicago Lyric Opera, but this will be his UK debut in the part.
