TESTOSTERONE is coming to the North East!

It’s not, however, a Friday night in Newcastle’s Bigg Market or similar places elsewhere in the region but a play written by transgender playwright and director Kit Redstone and performed by physical theatre company Rhum and Clay.

It tells Redstone’s true story, the story of a man who is in an amusing and unique position, having transitioned from female to male in his early thirties, and so has experienced adult life on both sides of the gender fence, giving him the opportunity to notice what differences there are in how he is treated by society—what he gains and what he loses by becoming a man.

The play explores the sometimes toxic world of men and looks at the benefits and restraints Redstone has observed whilst becoming a man. It was part of the 2017 British Council Edinburgh Showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe and combines storytelling, comedy and physical theatre.

The tour is part of REACH, a project bringing new theatre to the North East managed by ARC Stockton and funded by Arts Council England, and will visit:

  • Monday 30 April, 7:30 - Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre
  • Tuesday 1 May, 7:30 - Saltburn Community Theatre
  • Wednesday 2 May, 7:30 - Alnwick Playhouse
  • Thursday 3 May, 7:30 – Arts Centre Washington
  • Friday 4 May, 8:00 – The Witham, Barnard Castle
  • Saturday 5 May, 7:30 - Bishop Auckland Town Hall
