Theatr Gwynedd to Close North Wales theatre company Theatr Gwynedd is to cease trading at the end of October, when its Bangor University-owned theatre closes. Janet Roberts, Chairman of the Theatr Gwynedd Management Board, said, "In the face of the difficult economic environment, with the increased financial pressures on local government, and on the arts in general, the Theatr Gwynedd Management Board has decided, after detailed and serious discussion, that the only option was to bring the Theatrs activities to an end. "The last day will be a sad day for the Theatrs staff, the members of the present Management Board, and everyone who has been involved with Theatr Gwynedd over the years. I would like to thank those who have financed us, The Arts Council of Wales, Gwynedd Council, Isle of Anglesey County Council and Bangor City Council, for their support which has enabled us to offer a varied, high quality programme until the end of October this year." Dafydd Thomas, Theatr Gwynedd Director, said, "I hope that theatre in the city of Bangor and surrounding area will flourish in the future, and that the exciting plans being discussed by Bangor University to create a high quality arts centre in the city will bear fruit." More than twenty jobs, twelve of them full-time, will go and Bangor will be left without any theatre provision until a new arts centre planned by the university is built.
