The St Petersburg Ballet Theatre has announced that it will extend its run at London’s Coliseum this August 2015 for the second time, adding a further five extra performances of Swan Lake.

The London season will now run from Thursday 13 August to Sunday 23 August with 9 performances of Swan Lake, including new weekend matinées added alongside two performances of La Bayadère.

Prima ballerina Irina Kolesnikova will lead the company in its London run which continues a critically acclaimed sell-out tour of Paris, Singapore, Melbourne and Tokyo, dancing Odette/Odile in Swan Lake and Nikiya in La Bayadère.

She will be joined by international guest star performers, including Kimin Kim (Mariinsky), Ekaterina Krisanova (Bolshoi), Denis Rodkin (Bolshoi) and Vadim Muntagirov (Royal Ballet). The 55-strong company is accompanied by the 40-piece St Petersburg Ballet Orchestra.

Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake premièred at the Bolshoi in 1877. It was re-mounted by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov for the Imperial Theatre in St Petersburg in 1895, a year after the death of Tchaikovsky, and has gone on to become one the most loved ballets of all time.

The exotic La Bayadère is a tale of love, murder and vengeful judgment by the gods, set to a lyrical score by Ludwig Minkus.
