Theatre Book Prize Judges

The Society for Theatre Research has announced the judges for this year’s Theatre Book Prize. They are:

  • Catherine Comerford, Managing Director of The Stage newspaper
  • Prof Mike Wilson, Dean of the School of Media & Performance at Falmouth University College
  • Rupert Rhymes OBE.

The panel is chaired by Howard Loxton of the Society for Theatre Research

Miss Comerford, who represents the theatrical press, is the great granddaughter of Maurice Comerford, co-founder of the newspaper of the theatrical profession, and she now heads its organisation.

Prof Wilson, who represents academia, was formerly Head of Research at the Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries, University of Glamorgan, and was himself short-listed for the Prize in 2007 for London’s Grand Guignol, co-authored with Richard Hand.

Mr Rhymes, who represents the theatrical profession, has worked with many major theatre companies including the RSC, the National Theatre and the Old Vic. He has been CEO of SOLT (Society of London Theatre) and the TMA (Theatre Managers Association) and a past Chairman of the Theatres Trust.

The Theatre Book Prize is awarded annually by the Society for Theatre Research for the book that an independent panel consider the best published during the year on an aspect of the history and practice of British or British-related theatre.
