The Go-Between

Two Midlands theatres are celebrating after scooping best musical production at the Theatre Awards UK ceremony.

Northampton Royal and Derngate, Derby LIVE and West Yorkshire Playhouse staged The Go-Between in association with Perfect Pitch.

The musical adaptation by Richard Taylor and David Wood of L P Hartley’s novel took to the Northampton stage last November.

Royal and Derngate’s chief executive Martin Sutherland commented, “It was great to see this new musical, which was developed here over a number of years, being recognised in this way.

“We’re really proud to have been part of this co-production and pleased that we can bring such high quality new shows to audiences in Northampton.”

In addition Music and Lyrics, a new consortium of which Royal and Derngate is a founder member, picked up an award for its contribution to touring.

The annual Theatre Awards UK, run by the Theatrical Management Association, honours creative excellence and outstanding work throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
