The Works - New Musicals

Mercury Musical Developments, which exists to support writers and composers of musical theatre, is holding a showcase at the Arts Theatre in Great Newport Street on 21st and 22nd October. Organised in association with the Arts Theatre and Clear Channel Entertainment, the showcase features condensed stage readings of five new musicals:

EVERYONE LOVES ME!
by Mark Sims and Paul Tibbey
Directed by Susie McKenna
Fame is the new religion. If you're not on the telly how do you know you really exist? The knives are out as the has-beens and the wannabes fight it out in a war of existential angst, post-modern irony and the Sunday tea-time ratings.

THE MYSTERIES OF HARRIS BURDICK
by Joe Calarco, Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen
Directed by Joe Calarco
Three friends are haunted by memories of their childhood and take a surreal fantastical journey back into their past. Inspired by Chris Van Allsburg's world famous book of sketches.

GRACE AND THE DON
by Pat Cumper and Delroy Murray
Directed by Jo Martin
When an uptown girl falls in love with a downtown boy, will she ever be brave enough to follow her heart? Whether Grace and The Don dance to ska, reggae or dance hall rhythms, their love affair moves to its own beat.

ESPRESSO TRASHO
by Charles Leipart and Eric Schorr
Directed by Lisa Forrell
Join the jitterati at TriBeCa's rad internet coffee bar ... it's sex, lattes and megabucks in a post-modern spin on Sheridan's classic comedy School for Scandal.

DAYLIGHT SPIRITS
by Charles Philip Thomas, Bill Kehl, Fawn Kehl, Phil Grimes, Kristeen Griffin-Grimes
Directed by Tamara Harvey
Beautiful American mountain melodies are woven through a ghostly story of love and passion, sunshine and moonshine ... in this life and from beyond the grave.

The performances on 21st are for an invited audience of music theatre professionals only but those on the 22nd are open to the public. The running order is

10.00 - 1.00
