Peter Tinniswood Dies

Novelist and playwright Peter Tinniswood has died at the age of 66. He had been suffering from cancer.

Although best known as a novelist, Tinniswood 's comedies had considerable success on stage, TV and radio. His last major success was a play for Radio 4 in 2002, Anton in Eastbourne, about Anton Chekhov visiting the seaside town. His last stage success was On the Whole It's Been Jolly Good, starring Leslie Phillips, which premiered to great success at the Pleasance the 2000 Edinburgh Fringe and then transferred to the Hampstead Theatre.

His work has been produced at the Bush, the National, the Bristol Old Vic and the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough. He was also an adapter (My Uncle Silas) and translator (of plays by Eduardo Di Filippo).
