The official Topping Out ceremony for Home, Manchester’s new purpose-built multi-artform complex, took place in a rooftop ‘living room’ that had been lifted to the highest point to mark the occasion.

The traditional ceremony marks a significant milestone in the construction of the new £25m building, due to open next spring.

Home will commission, produce and present an ambitious programme of contemporary visual art, theatre and film. The organisation was formed from the merger of Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company and will inherit and build upon their artistic legacies.

A programme of site-specific theatre productions, to be announced next month will take place in locations around the city, introducing audiences to the vision of Home Theatre ahead of the official opening. Contemporary art and cinema continue at Cornerhouse until the new venue opens.
