De Niro Is the Greatest!

According to a poll of readers of the film magazine Empire, the greatest actor (nominees had to be over fifty) is Robert De Niro. Second is Al Pacino and third Jack Nicholson. Paul Newman is fourth and Marlon Brando, who was still alive when the poll began, fifth.

Although Empire is a UK-based magazine, British actors don't fare too well. Anthony Hopkins comes in at sixth with Sean Connery at 13th and Ian McKellen at 15th. Christopher Lee (16th), Alan Rickman (19th), Judi Dench (20th) and Peter O'Toole (22nd) were outstripped by Sigouney Weaver (10th), Gene Hackman (11th) and Harrison Ford (12th).

The top ten is completed by Morgan Freeman (7th), Dustin Hoffman (8th) and Clint Eastwood (9th).

Vote in our poll to discover who BTG visitors consider to be the greatest actor over fifty.

Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
