Dateline: 11th July, 2007
New Director at the Traverse Dominic Hill, joint-director of Dundee Rep, has been appointed as the artistic director of Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre. He will work alongside current director Philip Howard during the autumn and will take over in the new year. Hill joined the Dundee Rep in 2003 and has been responsible for a number of their most successful productions, including Howard Barker's Scenes from an Execution, David Greig's version of Jary's Ubu the King, as well as Dancing at Lughnasa, A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Duchess of Malfi. He has also directed Macbeth and Falstaff for Scottish Opera. "The Traverse has a fantastic international reputation," he said, "so it will be a challenge for me to continue and develop that." Welcoming the appointment, Philip Howard said, "It's great that such a high-calibre director has been appointed to lead the theatre into exciting new times."
