And Now - the Tringe

Joining the many entries in the north west's festival season is a brand new fringe festival in the relatively new city – upgraded from a town to England's fiftieth city in 2002 – of Preston in Lancashire, the Preston Tringe.

The Tringe is an open-access festival with performances around the city centre at The Adelphi, The Angel, Avenham Park Pavilion, New Continental and The Ship Inn.

Theatre performances include Wake-up Call by Graham Eaglesham from Black Butterfly Theatre Company, Waiting In Soho from Screaming Theatre, relationship comedy Harpy and the Slob, murder mystery Crimetime plus How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse (followed by a late-night zombie ball) from After Dark Theatre Company, Holmes and Watson tale The Double Headed Penny Farthing from Essential Jack Theatre Company, The Lift from Stage Victims, physical theatre piece Table Top Mountain, John Cage's Disco Classics by Cliff Laine from Pantygirdle Productions and Tales from the Blackjack from Dead Square Productions.

The event will also include music, stand-up comedy, magic, poetry, literature and a discussion on supporting the arts in Preston conducted over Twitter called Preston Tweetup.

Even before the first event has started, plans are being discussed for an expanded programme in 2010, including a call for further venues for next year. For performers, there are no limits on the nature of the acts taking part, inclusion in the programme and a ninety-minute slot at one of the participating venues is free (slots of over ninety minutes are subject to a charge) apart from a £50 refundable deposit and box office takings at most venues are split 50-50 with the festival organisation.

The first Preston Tringe will run from 23 to 31 July, and details of shows and tickets are available from the Festival's web site at www.tringe.co.uk/.
