Understairs in Liquidation

Fringe venue managers Understairs Arts, which was at the centre of a row with the Edinburgh Apostolic Church over a show that was to be presented there and which led to the church withdrawing the use of their building, has gone into voluntary liquidation, leaving 25 shows, which would booked into their other two venues at the Royal Scots Club and Euroscot homeless.

The two venues have said that they are willing to continue to host shows and a Trevor Alexander, director of one of the production companies, Seven Dwarves, which has two shows (For God's Sake! and Orgasm - The Musical) at the Royal Scots Club, has said that he is seeking ways to run the venues for the benefit of all the other companies involved and the Fringe director, Jon Morgan, added that he is in contact with the companies involved to offer them whatever help the Fringe Society can give.

A statement on the Understairs Arts website reads:

Understairs Arts have gone into voluntary liquidation following the last minute decision of the owners of one of the venues they were to manage at the 2007 Edinburgh Festival Fringe not to continue with the agreement to allow the company to use their premises as a Fringe venue.

This caused considerable difficulty for both the company and the performing companies that were due to appear at understairs@Apostolic.

It is hoped that an agreement will be reached to allow another company to run Euroscot and Royal Scots Club as Fringe venues. Full details of this and where companies from Apostolic are now performing may be obtained from the Fringe Office.
