Unity Spring Season

Liverpool's leading fringe venue Unity Theatre has announced its spring season of productions for 2011.

Big Wow will open the season in January with road trip comedy The Friendship Experiment, followed by the Unity debut of Pants On Fire Theatre Company with its adaptation of Ovid's Metamorphoses. Mask theatre company Vamos, featuring former Trestle Theatre Company members, will perform Nursing Lives, based on true stories of nurses at Worcester Royal Infirmary during World War II.

Acclaimed theatre company Told By An Idiot will visit the Unity in March with And The Horse You Rode In On, which examines extreme acts of violence and the lengths people will go to for their beliefs and takes its inspiration from a range of sources that include Hitchcock’s Sabotage and the writings of Dario Fo and Günter Grass.

Linda Marlowe brings her acclaimed performance of Carol Ann Duffy's poetry collection The World's Wife in March, and Sarah Leaver's Memoirs of a Hermaphrodite is inspired by the true story of Herculine Barbin, a person born between genders. Breathout Theatre's Rid The World by Rob Johnston is set in 1911 in a Britain on the brink of social change and is based on Trevor Griffiths's screenplay Such Impossibilities. Peter Harrison's look at Britain's last hangman in Pierrepoint: The Hangman's Tale is performed by Martin Oldfield in a Cafe Society production.

For children, Unicorn associate artistic director Rosamunde Hutt directs Mike Kenny's Scarecrow for AJTC Theatre Company, Horse + Bamboo will perform Storm in a Teacup and Fevered Sleep will return with And The Rain Falls Down.
