The three winners of the inaugural Untapped Edinburgh competition have been revealed as:

  • Nouveau Riche, which will make its Edinburgh debut under the competition.

The members of this South London based company started out performing spoken word before moving into theatre and use language, music, movement and stories from their own lives in their show, Queens of Sheba, an energetic and funny look at a group of black women’s day-to-day experiences with men.

  • Breach Theatre, which will take its Untapped-winning production of It's True It's True It's True to Edinburgh.

This courtroom drama, inspired by the transcript of a rape trial from the year 1612 and written in contemporary language, looks at how gender power dynamics have changed over the past four centuries.

Breach Theatre's previous work includes Tank and The Beanfield.

  • This Egg, which will take the sometimes harrowing dressed to Edinburgh.

This show uses direct address, dance, original music and design in its rendition of the true story of a girl who, having been stripped and sexually assaulted at gunpoint, gives all her clothes away and starts creating a new wardrobe providing an insight into someone losing, and then taking back control over their own life.

This Egg's previous work includes Me & My Bee.

These three companies were selected by a judging panel from over three hundred submissions.

They will each receive an enhanced split of ticket proceeds from their Edinburgh run and a grant of £3,000 towards production costs at Underbelly, in addition to in-kind mentorship, full marketing and PR support, accessible performances and a London showcase at New Diorama Theatre.

This is the first year of the Untapped Edinburgh competition. It is presented by pioneering London venue New Diorama Theatre and live entertainment company Underbelly.

New Diorama Theatre’s artistic director David Byrne said of the competition winners, "Edinburgh becomes increasingly more challenging and expensive every year, especially for the type of ensemble companies New Diorama supports.

"The three winners of this prize blew us away with their passion, ideas and performances. It’s a privilege to be able to help them get their stories in front of audiences at the world’s biggest arts festival.”
