Dateline: 18th March, 2007
Unwin to Leave ETT English Touring Theatre's artistic director Stephen Unwin has announced that he is to leave the company in summer 2008. He is the founder of the company and has been at the helm for fifteen years. he is lkeaving, he says, "to pursue other projects". Since it began ETT has produced forty plays, most of them directed by Unwin, and toured to over 75 theatres. He won the Sam Wanamaker Award in 2003 and the company has won a further sixteen major awards. The chair of the company's trustees, Nic Lloyd, commented, "Stephen has been an immensely successful director and has established ETT as one of the leading touring companies in the UK. I have greatly enjoyed working with him and the trustees would like to thank him for his immeasurable contribution and to wish him well in all his future endeavours. He has thoughtfully given us time to reflect on how the company should move forward to the next exciting phase of its development." The search for a replacement will begin immediately so that there can be a long period of crossover when he and the incoming director will work together. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
