Community involvement: Deep

Buxton Opera house is calling on the people of the Derbyshire town to donate used plastic bottles which will be turned into the set of Deep, a new play by Rob Young.

Deep tells the story of Jan, a Buxton teenager rejected by his peers who is unable to cope with his father's illness. Jan finds solace in a voice that speaks from the deep but is it a trap or psychosis? And how do you date a girl who lives underwater when you can't swim?

The production will feature a cast of Derbyshire performers aged from 16 to 30.

Freelance set designer Kate Unwin said, “this is a chance for all the community of Buxton to be involved in this production. Not only will they be contributing to the set but also helping to spread the idea of re-purposing single plastic.”

Anyone can leave used bottles that have been rinsed clean at Buxton Opera House’s offices at 5 The Square during office hours.

Deep will be performed at Buxton Opera House on Sunday 26 January.
