The winner of this year's Verity Bargate Award is Korean-born In-Sook Chappell for her play This Isn't Romance. She was chosen from a shortlist of six. The others were:

Harm's Way by Zawe Ashton
Zimbabwe by Simon Bennett
Outcast by Rosemary Jenkinson
The Punishment Stories by Anders Lustgarten
Meantime by Maxine Quintyne

Over 800 plays were submitted from all over the UK.

The judges for this year's award were Gurpreet Bhatti, Lisa Goldman, Bonnie Greer (former award winner), Bryony Lavery, Kim Noble and Stuart Silver (of nobleandsilver), and Philip Ridley.

The Verity Bargate Award is a biennial competition to find the best new play by an emerging writer and carries a prize of £5,000 and a residency at Soho Theatre. It was set up in 1981 in memory of Verity Bargate, co-founder of the Soho Theatre.
