Equity Recommends West End Deal

A deal to settle the long-running pay dispute between Equity and the Society of London Theatre and allow Sunday opening is close to being achieved. Equity is recommending that members should accept the deal and balloting is currently taking place.

Neither Equity nor SOLT will give any details but it is understood that it includes:

  1. Pay rises for all performers, according to the size of the venue: £550 (venues of 1,100+ seats), £500 (800 to 1,099 seats) and £450 (smaller theatres)
  2. £50 payment for Sunday working
  3. Annual inflation increases for the four years of the deal
  4. Other payments (e.g. featured ensemble roles, flying) "rolled up" into the basic
  5. Understudy payments lowered
  6. £160 payment for electronic "press kit" inclusion waived for non-commercial use

Currently the weekly basic rate for West End performers, regardless of the size of the venue, is £416.
