West End Pay Deal Agreed Two thirds of Equity members working in West End musicals have voted to accept the final offer from the Society of London Theatre in their long-running pay dispute (see our news stories of 5th and 16th October). However a third of members indicated that they would be prepared to take industrial action to get an improved offer, a fact which Equity General Secretary Christine Payne said SOLT must take note of. 96% of members working in plays also voted to accept. Equity Assistant General Secretary for Live Performance. Stephen Spence commented, "A clear majority of members across the West End have now indicated their support for Equity closing a deal with SOLT based on their End of the Line offer. This will be reported to the Equity Council which meets on 2nd December. We are moving to discuss implementation arrangements for a new agreement with SOLT now. "The result means significant increases in minimum rates of pay have been achieved, effectively ending low pay minimums in the West End for the future. The new agreement includes Sunday performances, some additional payments have been included in the new minimum wages and the usage of the Electronic Press Kit has been extended to allow greater scope to promote productions." Now that the deal has been accepted, the minimum will rise to £550 a week for theatres of over 1,100 seats, plus an extra £50 for Sunday performances. For theatres with 800-1099 seats, the minimun will be £600 and for below 799 seats, £450. The theatre size will be based on seats sold. The deal runs for four yaers with an inflation increase every year.
