Les Misérables continues at Newcastle Theatre Royal until 5 October.

At Northern Stage, Douglas Maxwell’s stage adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles continues in Stage 3 until 23 September. In Stage 1, Nigel Slater’s Toast runs from Tuesday to Saturday, while in Stage 2 on Tuesday, Rosa Postlethwaite performs Composed, an investigation into social conventions, contained fury and work; on Friday, Anna Mudeka presents Kure Kure / Faraway, in which—with traditional and contemporary music, projected visuals, song, dance and spoken word—she takes audiences on a journey from ancient to modern-day Zimbabwe, London and Norfolk and on Saturday, China Plate & Staatstheater Mainz presents Status, written by Chris Thorpe, developed with and directed by Rachel Chavkin, a show about someone who doesn't want his nationality any more, a globe-spanning journey of attempted escape, with songs along the way.

On Thursday, Live Theatre revives the sell-out hit of 2018, Clear White Light, which runs until 12 October. Then on Friday and Saturday in the Studio, Matthew Bellwood performs Terror from the Skies, which, combining live storytelling, projected illustrations and intricate miniatures, deals with society, friendship and the things we hold dear about the places where we live.

At Alphabetti from Tuesday to Saturday, Circ Motif presents The Art of Cuddling & Other Things, then on Saturday at 9:30, it’s the September Write Faster in which three writers create a new piece of theatre handing the lines, stage directions or whatever to the actors as they go along.

At Dance City on Tuesday at 6:00 is the season launch event.

When the Boat Comes In, Part 2: the Hungry Years continues at the Customs House in South Shields until 28 September.

Terror from the Skies is in the Henry Travers Studio at The Maltings in Berwick on Wednesday and Thursday. Then on Wednesday, Testament presents Woke, not the show we reviewed at Barnard Castle last week but the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Royal Exchange Theatre, Roundhouse and Camden People’s Theatre co-production in association with LittleMighty which we reviewed in 2017.

Children’s show Stick Man comes to Durham’s Gala Theatre from Friday to Sunday (various times).

Bishop Auckland Town Hall is closed until spring 2020 for refurbishment.

Monstersaurus, a show for children aged 3+, is at Billingham Forum at 1:30 and 3:30 on Saturday.

Lucy Gamsby Frost presents Prison Factory Cult Circus at ARC Stockton on Thursday at 7:00. Through circus, live music, story and the soundtrack of life in the North of England, Lucy dissects her past and delves into her family’s long-term relationship with risk. Also on Saturday at 11:30 and 2:30, Sea Legs Puppet Theatre presents Little Bo Peep, a show for children aged 2 to 7.

NTC’s The Stars Look Down comes to Middlesbrough Theatre on Wednesday.

From Tuesday to Saturday, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story returns to Darlington Hippodrome.

On Saturday, Baby Love Productions presents Tom Kelly’s Love Songs at the Majestic Theatre, Darlington.

There are two shows at the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond this week. Fell-Foss Theatre presents its first production, Crusoe's Island performed by Mark Cronfield, on Thursday and on Saturday Theatrical Niche present a multi-disciplinary new adaptation of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya.

Terror from the Skies comes to Harrogate Theatre’s Studio on Tuesday and Wednesday and then from Thursday to Saturday, Philip Stokes's 5-star Edinburgh Fringe hit of 2009, Heroin (e) For Breakfast, returns in a new production by the original team, after its 2019 Fringe revival.
