At Newcastle’s Theatre Royal this week the RSC visits for just one day—Tuesday at 10AM and 1:30PM—with its Shakespeare for younger audiences First Encounters production of The Famous Victories of Henry V which is aimed at children aged 8+. Then from Wednesday to Saturday Mischief Theatre presents Peter Pan Goes Wrong.

There are four events in Stage 3 at Northern Stage this week: on Tuesday, Visible, Britain’s foremost professional theatre ensemble made up entirely of ‘older’ performers in their 60s, 70s and 80s, presents Who Do We Think We Are?, a selection of performances, video & discussion, on Thursday PINK LANE: Poetry & Performance comes to Northern Stage for the first time and on Friday Daniel Bye and Northern Stage present The Six O’Clock News, a response to the news stories of the day. Finally on Saturday, it’s the turn of Stabbing Les and Top of the Popera, an evening of music, performance and spoken word exploring nostalgia and what it feels like to fall in love with music for the first time.

At Dance City on Saturday, the National Youth Dance Company performs Frame(d), created by the 2014-15 Guest Artistic Director Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

Top Hat continues at Sunderland Empire until Saturday.

From Thursday to Sunday, Theatre Space North East presents a promenade production of Hamlet in Roker Park, Sunderland. The performance is free, although a donation is requested (£8 suggested) and the audience should meet at the lower beach entrance at 7.

On Wednesday The Letter Room brings Five Feet in Front, the play which it is taking to the Edinburgh Fringe this year, to the Customs House in South Shields.

Willy Russell’s Shirley Valentine comes to The Phoenix Theatre in Blyth from Thursday to Saturday.

On Thursday and Friday, the Queen’s Hall, Hexham, presents Oddsocks Productions in Much Ado About Nothing inan outdoor performance at Dilston Hall, Corbridge.

On Thursday and Friday, Durham’s Gala Theatre hosts Hadaway Harry, a new play about Harry Clasper, the NE’s first sporting superstar in 1845.

From Tuesday to Saturday, Darlington Civic begins its Summer Thriller Season with Arnold Ridley’s The Ghost Train.
