Peppa Pig’s Surprise comes to Newcastle’s Theatre Royal at 10AM, 1PM and 4PM on Wednesday and Thursday.

This week, Alphabetti Theatre presents three evenings of Edfringe stand-up previews: on Tuesday, Lauren Pattison with Reet Petite and Adam Rowe with Bittersweet Little Lies, on Wednesday it’s the turn of Carl Hutchinson and David Callaghan and on Thursday Cal Halbert presents Cal Halbert: Man Of 1000 Voices, Well about 7. Finally, on Saturday, physical theatre company Fun in the Oven take Alphabetti’s 24 Hour Theatre Challenge to create a show in 24 hours.

The South Tyneside Comedy Festival runs at the Customs House in South Shields from Friday until 6 August.

Aimed at 2- to 7-year-olds, Marty MacDonald’s Toy Machine comes to Alnwick Playhouse at 1PM on Thursday.

On Friday at 6:30 at the Queen's Hall in Hexham, Multi Story Theatre Company presents The Labyrinth featuring anarray of famous mythical characters for children aged 5+.

The drama/installation 1916: No Turning Back continues at Durham’s Gala Theatre until 28 August.

On Wednesday, Playriety Productions presents The Dressing Room by Bobby Ball at Middlesbrough Theatre.

At 7PM on Thursday in RHS Harlow Carr Gardens in Harrogate The Pantaloons present The Canterbury Tales—all of them, in under two hours.
