The Soul musical, Roddy Doyle’s The Commitments, is at Newcastle Theatre Royal from Monday to Saturday.

Dr Frankenstein continues in Stage 1 at Northern Stage until 11 March and on Thursday in Stage 3 Playing Up offers an evening of new writing dealing with airports, Shakespearean cross dressing, the price of stardom, a church that has to play bingo, milk-related violence and women being pushed to the edge.

Astravaganza Entertainment presents Priscilla Queen of the Desert at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House from Thursday to Saturday.

From Thursday to Saturday Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story comes to Sunderland Empire.

Théâtre Sans Frontières presents Heaven Eyes at Arts Centre Washington on Wednesday.

On Friday, Sunderland Stages brings the Six Twenty’s Mixtape to the Dun Cow in Sunderland (next to Sunderland Empire).

The Dressing Room by Bobby Ball comes to the Playhouse Whitley Bay on Monday.

On Monday and Tuesday, the John Godber Company and Theatre Royal Wakefield bring Godber’s latest play The Empty Nesters’ Club to Durham’s Gala Theatre, the first stop after Wakefield on its national tour.

The Empty Nesters’ Club moves to Middlesbrough Theatre on Wednesday and runs until Saturday.

On Wednesday RashDash brings Fringe First winning Two Man Show to ARC Stockton.

Children’s show Spirit of the Sea, presented by Theatre Hullabaloo, comes to the Art Gallery in Crown Street Library in Darlington at 1:30 on Saturday.
