Spirit of the Dance comes to Newcastle Theatre Royal from Wednesday to Saturday and on Sunday it’s Grumpy Old Women: To the Rescue!.

In Stage 2 at Northern Stage on Monday Sheep Soup presents The Leftovers.

On Wednesday and Thursday at Live Theatre, Soho Theatre and Talawa Theatre Company present Half Breed, written and performed by Natasha Marshall.

On Tuesday, Alphabetti presents its May performance of Write Faster, in which three writers write a brand new play in front of the audience whilst it’s also being performed. The writers have not been announced but the performers will be Zoe Lambert, Micky Cochrane and Kemi-Bo Jacobs. On Wednesday, the theatre and Martha Hill present the Women are Mint launch event, part gigs / part conversations celebrating women’s voices of the past and present in the North East. Finally, from Thursday to Saturday, Alphabetti and Coracle present Suffragette, one 100-year-old play and four new short plays inspired by the Suffragettes.

On Friday at Dance City, Silke Z Resistdance presents Still Here, in which performer Angus Balbernie (62) and dancer Lisa Kirsch (26) meet and compare their own physical abilities, challenging themselves and each other.

Matilda the Musical continues at Sunderland Empire until 2 June.

Where there’s Muck, There’s Bras, a performance lecture in which stand-up poet Kate Fox and actor Joanna Holden explore the Northern women you’ve heard of (and the ones you haven’t) gets a work-in-progress showing at Arts Centre Washington on Monday.

Mountains: The Dreams of Lily Kwok by In-Sook Chappell, based on the memoir Sweet Mandarin by Helen Tse—featuring live cooking on stage—comes to the Queen’s Hall in Hexham on Thursday and Friday.

English Touring Opera comes to Durham’s Gala Theatre this week with The Marriage of Figaro on Monday and Puccini’s Il tabarro and Gianni Schicchi on Tuesday. Then on Saturday Grumpy Old Women arrive.

The Witham in Barnard Castle launches its summer programme at 6:00 on Thursday.

On Wednesday, One Woman Sex and the City: A Parody on Love, Friendship, and Shoes comes to Middlesbrough Theatre. Then on Friday Baroque Theatre Company presents the comedy thriller Twist.

The Thelmas bring Coconut, the story of British Pakistani woman Rumi who spends more time enjoying fine wine and bacon than being at the mosque, to ARC Stockton at 7:00 on Wednesday. Then on Saturday at 11:30 and 2:30 Theatre of Widdershins presents Three Billy Goats Gruff and Other Furry Tails for age 3+.

From Tuesday to Saturday at Darlington Hippodrome, the Touring Consortium Theatre Company and Rose Theatre Kingston present Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

On Saturday, Manchester-based Heritage Opera returns to the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond with their chamber version of Puccini’s La Bohème, sung in English and accompanied by piano.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea continues in The Studio at Harrogate Theatre until Saturday.

On Friday at 7:45 and Saturday at 1:45 and 7:45 at North Bar in Harrogate, Making Room presents The Midnight Soup, written and performed by Leo Burtin, devised in collaboration with Mark Whitelaw, an intimate performance meal for sixteen guests at a time.
