Who's Tommy in Greenwich?

Full casting was announced this week for The Who’s Tommy which opens in a month at Greenwich Theatre, marking the 40th anniversary of the original film and some 20 years since the show was last seen in London.

The award-winning iconic movie was adapted for the stage by Des McAnuff, whose credits include Jersey Boys, and The Who’s Pete Townshend with additional music and lyrics by John Entwistle and Keith Moon.

Ashley Birchall will play the titular Tommy with the cast also featuring John Barr as Uncle Ernie and Carly Burns as the Acid Queen.

Also in the cast are James Sinclair, Giovanni Spanó, Carrie Sutton, Miranda Wilford Danny Becker, Scott Sutcliffe and Alice Mogg.

Award-winning Michael Strassen will direct. The choreographer is Mark Smith and the musical director is Kevin Oliver Jones.

Before Tommy, the programme at Greenwich includes an evening with feminist icon and public figure Germaine Greer. Germaine Greer: The Disappearing Woman is a candid evening during which the audience can ask questions. For young audiences, there is Mirror Me presented by Hello Theatre.
