The Woman in Black - in Japanese

For five performances only two of Japan’s leading performers will present the Japanese language version of The Woman in Black at the Fortune Theatre in London’s West En from 9th to 12th September at 8pm and on 13th September at 4pm..

Woman in Black has just celebrated its 7,500th performance, and next year will be heading into its twentieth year in the West End. It has also become a huge global hit. Robin Herford first directed a Japanese version in Tokyo in 1992 where it instantly became a cult. It has been performed in Japan regularly ever since.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the commencement of diplomatic relations between the UK and Japan, and as part of the 20th anniversary of Woman in Black in the West End, leading Japanese theatre producers PARCO are bringing the Japanese language version to the Fortune Theatre for five performances only.

The production will feature two of Japan’s best known and most highly regarded actors:

Takaya Kamikaya made his debut in 1995 in the drama Daichi-no-Ko and went on to appear in numerous television and film roles for which he has won many awards. His stage work has also earned him the reputation of being one of the finest young actors in Japan.

Haruhito Saito's career has spanned numerous theatre productions as well as television and film appearances. He has also published three books. He has been involved with Woman in Black since it first appeared in Japan in 1992.

Producing company Parco is a leading figure in young and cutting edge culture since the 1970s. It is well known for its fashion department store, publishing and theatre businesses. It owns a theatre in Shibuya in central Tokyo in which it have produced plays by Neil Simon, Alan Ayckbourn, and Martin McDonagh.
