Nicholas Woodeson will join the cast of Anthony McCarten’s The Pope when it has its première at Royal and Derngate, Northampton in June 2018.
Veteran actor Woodeson last appeared in Northampton in 2017 as Willy Loman in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. He also played Harold Wilson in Peter Morgan’s The Audience at the Apollo Theatre in 2015 and took the lead in J B Priestley’s An Inspector Calls at the Novello Theatre in 2009.
In The Pope, Woodeson will play Pope Francis. As previously announced, Anton Lesser will be Pope Benedict. Faith Alabi is Sister Sophia and Lynsey Beauchamp takes the role of Sister Brigitta.
A Northampton Royal and Derngate co-production with Anthology Theatre in association with Tara Finney Productions, The Pope will run from Saturday 8 until Saturday 22 June. Press night will be Wednesday 12 June.
