Write#2 - Manchester

In September 2003 The Royal Exchange Theatre offered new North West writers of all ages the chance to have their scripts performed and produced by professional actors & directors at the Royal Exchange.

After six months of workshops and script surgeries, over 250 scripts were received and the judges have chosen four to become part of the Write #2 Festival in July.

The overall winner, MAYBE TOMORROW by Nicola Schofield, will be produced in The Studio (without décor) and the 3 runners up will have their work performed in a series of rehearsed readings.

We are delighted to announce the WRITE #2 programme:

  • MAYBE TOMORROW by Nicola Schofield (7 17 July, 7.30pm)
Pauline and Jon’s grand-daughter Molly is getting married this Autumn. She’s as young & in love as they were once but now, so much has changed. Although Pauline longs to recover the things she’s lost, Jon won’t help her. Will Pauline have the strength to go it alone and find her way home before all the leaves have fallen? Nicola is 23 & comes from Salford, and is currently in her 2nd year at Manchester University. MAYBE TOMORROW will be directed by Jo Combes who recently directed KNIVES IN HENS in The Studio.
  • CAROL by Sharif Samad (reading Monday 12 July at 5.30pm)
When Jimmy gets close to his big brother Bruce’s troubled ex-girlfriend, how far will he be prepared to go to help her get the baby she so desires and at what cost? Sharif Samad is an Anglo Egyptian writer originally from Burnley who has lived all over the world.
  • PLASTERED by Dominic Corey (reading 13 July at 5.30pm)
Plasterers Terry, Bob & Vince have got enough problems at home without having to worry about work, but now that their boss Ray is struggling to keep the business afloat, how much longer can they keep skimming over the cracks? Dominic started writing while studying Contemporary Performing Arts at university in Lancashire.
  • HONESTY BAR by Jemma Kennedy (reading 14 July at 5.30pm)
When middle-aged Mancunian couple Tony and Helen meet lonely singleton Marion and charismatic ex-pat Eddie on the last night of their holiday, British reserve melts under the Spanish sun…Jemma spent her twenties working in the music business in London and New York, and now teaches Creative Writing at MMU.

Tickets cost just £5 for MAYBE TOMORROW and £2.50 for the staged readings.
