The Brockley Jack Theatre

Write Now 2 at Brockley Jack

In the summer The Brockley Jack Theatre launched its second new writing festival and invited writers to submit previously unperformed plays for consideration. Over 80 scripts were received and read by a panel of theatre professionals before the winning three scripts were selected to have their first fully staged performances at The Jack.

The lucky writers who all have a connection with South London are:

Greenwich-born Jessica Brown who was selected for the Arts Council funded Writing Squad Programme for promising writers whilst at university and earlier this year participated in the Royal Court Young Writers Programme and was also short listed for the Old Vic 24 Hour Play Project.

Joe Ward Munrow grew up in Deptford but studied at Liverpool John Moore's University and graduated from the Liverpool Everyman's young writer's programme. His work has recently been seen at the Unity Theatre, Liverpool and at the Atlas Company's night of short plays in Liverpool.

The third is Greenwich resident and former social worker Judith Bryan whose fiction and non fiction writing has already been published and she is now an MA student in Writing for Performance at Goldsmiths.

Each of the writers' plays will have a fully staged week-long run as part of the festival which includes post-performance 'in conversations' and platform performances of work from six participants of the Jack's new writers workshop. The festival starts on Saturday 19th February.

For the second year running The Write Now Festival has been made possible thanks to funding from the Lewisham Arts Service's Take Part Fund, an initiative that is currently being reviewed and under threat of withdrawal.

The Write Now 2 Festival runs from Saturday 19th February to Saturday 12th March 2011. Prior to that The Jack presents The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, in a new adaptation by Jonathan Clarkson, which opens shortly.
