An Invitation to Scottish Playwrights

The Scottish Book Trust has received an additional grant of £10,000 to pilot the inclusion of playwrights in The Writers in Scotland Scheme.

Applications to be registered with the Scheme are currently being accepted from playwrights, living and working in Scotland, who would be interested in providing workshops, reading etc. on their work to a
variety of organisations.

The Writers in Scotland Scheme, funded by the Scottish Arts Council, supports writers registered with it by subsidising their visits to schools, writers groups, universities, prisons and community and literary organisations throughout Scotland. Part-funding for between 1300 and 1500 visits are granted to organisers every year.

Formerly open only to published writers of literary prose, poetry and literary non-fiction, the Scheme has now successfully integrated registered storytellers and currently there are over 350 writers/storytellers registered to provide events. All registered writers are included on the Scottish Book Trust on-line database to promote their work and receive regular information from SBT regarding the Scheme and other related issues. By broadening the scope of work the Scheme can deliver and expanding the
organisations who can benefit from it, the inclusion of playwrights will further the aims of the Scheme to promote writers and their craft and increase access to Scottish writers and their work by people of all
ages, backgrounds and abilities.

If you are a playwright interested in offering events and have had at least one play professionally produced within the last ten years please contact the following for full inclusion criteria, an application form and further information:
