The Brian Way Award 2007

An award for playwrights who write for young people (formerly The Children's Award). Submitted plays should be suitable for young people upto the age of eighteen and be at least 45 minutes long. They must have been produced professionally between 1st July 2005 and 30th June 2006. This may be a first, second or third production of a play written within the past ten years. The playwright must either be resident in the UK or Eire, or have had a writing association with a UK based theatre company.

Deadline for submissions is 30th November, 2006, by post to:

King's Cross Award for New Writing 2007

  • Up to two full-length stage plays may be entered per writer (no e-mail entries, no radio-plays or TV scripts, unpublished and unperformed scripts only)
  • The Entry fee is £5 per play (payable to The Courtyard)
  • Plays must be typed or word-processed and clearly laid out with pages numbered
  • Title page must include writer’s name and full contact details. PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE ANY INFORMATION WHICH COULD IDENTIFY THE WRITER ON ANY OTHER PAGE OF SCRIPT.
  • Include two SAEs: one for acknowledgement of entry and one for return of script (with correct postage)
  • Plays must be received by 2nd April 2007. Submissions received beyond this date will not be considered for the Award.
  • Each entry will be considered and a shortlist compiled by the internal reading panel. Scripts on the shortlist will then be read by an external panel. The winning script will be decided upon by both judging panels. The Award committee will notify the winning author by the end of September 2007.
  • . In accepting the Award the work of the wining writer will be legally contracted to the Courtyard Theatre.

British Asian Writers

Burnley Youth Theatre is running a competition and workshops to help Asian writers improve their skills. Their aim is to find writers who can write about the experiences of British Asians.

Written in English, unpublished and not previously performed scripts should be sent to:

Winners will receive cash bursaries of up to £1,000 and continuing support.

Ruby Lloyd Apsey Award

In every even-numbered year, Theatre UAB seeks new and original plays confronting racial or ethnic issues, especially those calling for ethnically diverse and/or multi-racial casting. We are especially interested in full-length dramas or comedies that could be produced as part of our regular season (that is, that could be performed by a diverse and talented group of college students).

All manuscripts, including a synopsis and character breakdown, should be submitted to this address

The Apsey Award is a $1000 prize plus a staged reading at Theatre UAB and the possibility of a fully-mounted production. Previously-produced and unproduced scripts are equally welcome.

The next deadline for submissions is December 1st, 2006.
