Spring and Summer in York

York Theatre Royal has announced its spring/summer 2009 season.

Highlights include the return of the The Railway Children, back due to popular demand for a second season at the National Railway Museum from 23rd July to 5th September, again directed by the theatre's Artistic Director Damian Cruden.

Other classic theatre includes The Oresteia from Belt Up Theatre (10th - 14th February), The House of Bernarda Alba from York Settlement Players (18th - 28th February), Pericles from York Youth Theatre from 16th - 18th April, and the theatre's Associate Director Juliet Foster directs Twelfth Night from 25th April - 16th May.

Other in-house productions are Pinter's The Homecoming directed by Damien Cruden in the Main House from 30th May to 20th June and The White Crown: Eichmann in Jerusalem by Donald Freed, also directed by Cruden, runs in the Studio from 1st to 21st May.

Visiting productions include English Touring Theatre's Where There's a Will by Georges Feydeau and directed by Peter Hall, in the Main House from 10th to 14th March, Scott Davidson Productions' Future Me by Stephen Brown (Studio 12 -14th March) and On the Shore of the Wide World by Simon Stephens, produced by Old Bomb Theatre (Studio 17th - 21st March).

After its West End success, Boeing Boeing visits from 24th to 28th February and other comedy includes LipService's Tony and Twizzle: The Glory Years (Main House 5th - 7th March), Hull Truck's production of John Godber's Lucky Sods (Main House 17th - 21st March) and Victoria Wood's Dinnerladies (The Main House 24th - 28th March).

Birmingham Royal Ballet returns to York Theatre Royal's main stage from 19th -20th May to perform three pieces from their repertoire: Gallantries, The Dance House and Elite Syncopations.

York Theatre Royal are co-producing a new play with music with LipService. Desperate to be Doris will not only feature some of Doris Days best known hits but we will be recruiting a choir from York to take part in the performance. It runs in the Main House from 26th June to 4th July.
