Yorkshire Singers Wanted Shared Experience and West Yorkshire Playhouse are offering people from across Yorkshire the opportunity to be part of a chorus of singers in their new production of Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle. They are looking for sixty people with a passion for singing to take part in the production during its run at the Playhouse. They do not need to be trained singers or be part of a choir but must be enthusiastic and eager to commit fully to the project. Auditions will be held at West Yorkshire Playhouse on Saturday 16th May from 2 – 7pm. They are encouraging whole families to audition. Auditionees must be over 13 years of age, and if they are aged between 13-15 a parent or carer must be willing to audition and appear and sing in the production with them. There is no upper age limit for the auditions and everyone of school-leavering age (16+) is welcome to attend. The sixty successful auditionees will be split into two teams of thirty to perform alternate evenings. The production, which will run from 30th September (previews from 26th) to 17th October, will be directed by Shared Experience Artistic Director Nancy Meckler and the chorus will be singing original music by composer Ilona Sekacz and will be directed by Derek Barnes. There is no need to prepare anything. The auditions will take the form of the group being taught a new song and practicing it. Please note that slots will be booked on a first come, first served basis. Group auditions take an hour but auditionees are needed half an hour earlier to register.
