Young Genius

Celebrating brilliance, originality and spirit in the early works of some of the world’s great playwrights and theatre artists. That's how the Young Vic and BITE, co-organisers of Young Genius, describe the programme. It is a collaboration between theatres across the UK, initiated by the Young Vic and BITE:05 Barbican, developed in partnership with national and international companies and its aim is to to inspire a younger generation of theatre-makers and artists.

The 12-week event, which runs from 16th September to 10th December, includes early plays by writers as diverse as Christopher Marlowe and Sarah Kane, Wole Soyinka and Francis Beaumont.

The productions are:

The Dragon's Trilogy
By Marie Brassard, Jean Casault, Lorraine Côté, Marie Gignac, Robert Lepage and Marie Michaud
Co-production with Ex Machina, directed by Robert Lepage
16th - 25 September at 5.00pm
Barbican Theatre

The Lion and the Jewel
By Wole Soyinka
Co-production with Collective Artistes
28th September to 4th October at 7.45pm
Barbican Pit

The Knight of the Burning Pestle
By Francis Beaumont
Co-production with the Mercury Theatre Company
15th - 24th September at the Mercury, Colchester (7.30pm)

Ubu the King
By Alfred Jary, in a new version by Favid Greig
Co-production with Dundee Rep and the Tron, Glasgow
30th November - 6th December at 7.45pm
