Dateline: 18th October, 2005
Glasgow's Tron and the Dundee Rep are joining forces with BITE:05 at the Barbican and the Young Vic to produce Jary's Ubu the King, which was originally performed in Paris in 1896, it scandalised audiences with its shocking language and vulgar schoolboy humour. Quite literally, it caused a riot. Dundee Reps award-winning Artistic Director Dominic Hill directs this frantic, foulmouthed tale of lust, greed and betrayal. The play has been given an original contemporary edge by award-winning playwright David Greig, and stars Gerry Mulgrew in the title role and Dundee Rep Ensembles Ann Louise Ross as Mum Ubu. The surreal satire of two gross megalomaniacs who spur each other on to overthrow the King, which loosely blends elements of Shakespeares Macbeth and Richard III, plays at the Tron from 3rd to 12th November, before moving to Dundee from 16th to 26th. It then goes to the Barbican where it will play from 30th November to 10th December, where it brings the Young Genius season to an end. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
