Dateline: 6th March, 2009
Young People Take Over York Theatre Royal Young people aged 26 and under will take over York Theatre Royal for three weeks this autumn. Young people will chose, write, direct, perform in and manage their own productions, deciding everything from how to manage Front of House, how the Box Office will operate and even what food is served in the Café Bar. A statement from the theatre says, "The TakeOver09 Young Person's Festival will take place for three weeks in September/ early October 2009. Young people from across our community will run the theatre in all its aspects during the festival period, with the support of our staff, and we are immediately looking for a team of enthusiastic volunteers aged between 18 and 25 who will undertake part time work placements in specific departments across the organisation in the run up to the festival. "So if you have a particular area of interest or expertise (e.g. marketing, costume design, backstage, IT), then this may be of interest to you. We also need a panel of 12 people aged between 11 and 25 to make important decisions about the Festival programming." To get involved: if you are aged between 11 and 25 you can download an expression of interest form from the learning section of York Theatre Royal's website - www.yorktheatreroyal.co.uk - or pop into the theatre. The foirm should be returnedas soon as possible (ideally by Monday 9th March) and the theatre will then send you an application pack. TO09 is part of A Night Less Ordinary, the Arts Council England scheme, supported by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, to get more young people into theatres across the country.
Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
