ACE Pilots Young Peoples Arts Award

Throughout 2004, 1,000 young people across England will be trialling an arts award which recognises their artistic and leadership skills.

The young people’s Arts Award pilot paves the way for a new national award scheme recognising the arts activities of a very wide range of young people.

The Arts Award is geared at young people aged 14-19 and can be taken at Silver or Gold level. By doing the award, young people will:

  • Develop their own achievement in the arts
  • Take part in the arts in their communities
  • Explore training and employment options
  • Take responsibility for an arts project involving other people

The award can be run wherever young people enjoy the arts outside the school curriculum – in arts organisations, schools, youth arts projects, youth clubs or voluntary bodies.

As well as celebrating arts achievement, the pilot will establish the award’s equivalence to other qualifications and its value to employers, so that it contributes to a young person’s portfolio of qualifications.

The two year Arts Award pilot is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and managed by Arts Council England. ACE hopes to launch the new award in autumn 2005.
